This work concentrates on the feedstocks which attract the highest
commercial interest.
The feedstocks to be processed are selected based on availability
and price. The first feedstock is characterised as white wood or clean
wood which does not include bark. The second feedstock is residues:
branches and tops of trees from logging operations which are called
forestry residues. Forestry residues include bark and significant
amounts of extractives.
All feedstocks are subject to mechanical harvesting.
Then, the raw material is transported, in general in a truck-trailer
unit, to the pyrolysis production plant. In the fuel supply chain
as a whole, transportation of fuel to the conversion plant can be
a major cost, typically 30-50 % of the delivered fuel cost.
